About this listing

Occupying a peaceful position, Home Covert provides spacious and versatile family accommodation together with a cottage. Surrounded by mature woodland, specimen trees, lawns and paddock land, it enjoys a particularly special setting. Built in 2012 to an exacting standard, Home Covert is an impressive, detached family house occupying a peaceful position at the end of a long, tree-lined gravel driveway. The house is entered through a magnificent, vaulted reception hall, an impressive space which sets the tone for the rest of the house. From here, the accommodation flows naturally into a superb open dining room, creating a wonderful central entertaining space with direct access to the gardens beyond. Beyond the dining room, a beautiful stone archway leads through to the kitchen/breakfast room, fitted with a four-door AGA and enjoying lovely views over the surrounding gardens. The kitchen is also served by a utility/boot room and a useful, shelved pantry. Running along the rear of the house are the principal reception rooms, all enjoying attractive views across the gardens and woodland. The drawing room and games room both feature fireplaces with woodburning stoves and double doors opening onto the terrace and gardens, providing an excellent connection between the house and its surroundings. To the front of the house there is a comfortable snug with a fireplace together with a useful boot room and cloakroom. The first floor is arranged around a grand galleried landing leading to an impressive principal bedroom suite with a dressing area and bathroom. There are three further double bedrooms that provide views over the garden and two bathrooms, all good proportions. The second floor provides four additional bedrooms with far-reaching views across the surrounding countryside, together with two shower rooms. At the entrance to the drive is a detached three-bedroom cottage. The cottage is subject to an agricultural occupancy restriction. The gardens and grounds are a particularly special feature of Home Covert. Extending to 34.73 acres, they comprise a wonderful combination of mature woodland, specimen trees, open lawns and pastureland. The woodland has been carefully established over many decades and now provides a remarkable arboretum-like setting, with an extensive collection of trees and shrubs creating year-round interest and colour. Paths wind through the woodland, passing ponds, a stream, and provide numerous opportunities to enjoy the surroundings and remarkable diversity of the landscape. To the south of the house are extensive lawns which provide an ideal setting for outdoor entertaining and family life, whilst the surrounding woodland creates an exceptional sense of privacy and seclusion. Rich in wildlife and natural beauty, the grounds offer a unique backdrop to the house throughout the seasons. A paddock lies to one side of the drive, and an open-sided timber-framed barn provides excellent storage and practical support for the wider estate. Home Covert occupies a privileged position within the charming hamlet of Roundway, approximately two miles north of the historic market town of Devizes. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Wiltshire Downs, the property enjoys an outstanding rural setting with far-reaching views across the surrounding countryside and towards the Downs beyond. Roundway is renowned for its rich history and was the site of the Battle of Roundway Down in July 1643, one of the most significant engagements of the First English Civil War. The battle resulted in a decisive Royalist victory and remains an important part of the area's heritage. Today, the landscape provides a beautiful and evocative setting, combining open countryside with exceptional walking and riding opportunities. Devizes offers an extensive range of day-to-day amenities, including independent boutiques, cafés, restaurants and supermarkets, together with a variety of leisure facilities. The highly regarded market town of Marlborough is within easy reach, while the cathedral city of Salisbury and the city of Bath provide a wider range of cultural, shopping and recreational amenities. Communications are particularly well served. Pewsey station offers direct rail services to London Paddington, whilst the A303 provides excellent access to the Southwest and London via the national motorway network. The M4 is also readily accessible. The area is renowned for its excellent schooling, with a number of highly regarded independent schools nearby including Marlborough College, Dauntsey's, St Mary's Calne, Stonar and Pinewood School.
