## Description

Exact location, viewing instructions and further details can be found in the brochure below. A maturing mixed woodland with good access amidst wonderful mountain scenery on the edge of Eryri National Park. Coed y Bedw occupies level and gently sloping ground on a shoulder of hill above the small village of Waunfawr on the northwest edge of Eryri (formerly Snowdonia) National Park. Caernarfon is 10 miles to the northwest and the North Wales Expressway at Bangor is a further 12 miles distant. Coed y Bedw and the adjacent woodland was cleared of its conifer crop in about 2008 and replanted with a mix of conifers and broadleaves. The main successor crop is composed of Sitka spruce but there are also pockets of hardwoods including birch, rowan, oak and ash. The trees are now well established and the conifers are heading towards being ready for a first thin. There is a sizeable pond in the southern portion of the wood accessed by a grass ride. Dragonflies, amphibians and herons have all been drawn to this attractive feature which the vendors have also used for wild swimming in the past. The wider woodland and surrounding moorland is something of a haven for birds; ravens, buzzards and choughs (among many others) have all been recorded here. Make your way to the south boundary for superb southerly views across to the northwest hills of Snowdonia. A substantial stoned track (overgrown in places) gives all-weather 2WD vehicular access. This leads to a generous in-wood parking area on the north side of the wood. You are extremely unlikely to get residential planning permission for this woodland. Our Forester's Thoughts Alastair says... "The encroaching branches on the access track need to be cut back (in conjunction with other owners). I would also want to open up the central ride (and spurs off it) to enhance pedestrian access within the wood. The conifers are showing promise and could yield some useful lumber from thinnings in the next 5 years or so. In the interim I would halo thin around the broadleaves to give them space to expand. The pond is a wonderful locus for recreation and enjoyment. I would brash the adjacent trees and perhaps fell a few stems to link the pond with the south edge to enjoy the superb mountain views."
