## Description

Exact location, viewing instructions and further details can be found in the brochure below. A small amenity woodland with mature Scots pine and a smattering of oak and birch, with scope for recreation. Frimley Copse is located on the fringes of Aldershot Ash Ranges Heath, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and only 3.5 miles south of junction four of the M3. Guildford, Woking and Bracknell are a short drive away, and Central London is 30 miles to the east. Situated over mostly level sandy and loam soils, the lofty mature canopy is for the most part occupied by Scots pine, a common native species that thrives in the earth found here. As the topography starts to slope gently towards the northwest, instances of birch and oak provide a delightful broadleaf contrast. At ground level, you will notice bracken, bilberry, foxglove and occasional primrose. Its manageable size offers scope for woodland recreation and has been used as such by its current custodians. One of the large pines would be ideal for felling to fuel a home wood burner, perhaps also using some of the logs to create a rudimentary nook to sit and read a book. Birdlife here is abundant; you will find lapwing, greenfinch, skylark, fieldfare and many acoustic songsters frequenting Frimley Copse, which will be sure to entertain a keen ornithologist. Mammals include deer (roe and muntjac), hedgehog, hare, fox, and wood mouse. The woodland is accessed on foot off Old Guildford Road through the wider wooded area marked ABC on the woodland map. Point A is indicated by a blue painted triangle on a tree. Our Forester's Thoughts Sam says... "This is certainly a pleasant spot to sit and read a book, perhaps under a strung-up parachute for some shelter. Collecting insects with the kids would be a great childhood pastime to indulge in at Frimley Copse. I would consider clearing and opening up a better path to the woodland from the road, and would also set up a trail camera or two to monitor the many wildlife visitors to the area. Birdboxes on trees would be a must for me!" Please remember some management operations require approval and/or a licence.
